The sight of Slaven Bilic jumping on the ITV desk following Dimitri Payet’s strike against Albania was hilarious, but unfortunately those celebrations may be short lived for Bilic and West Ham fans.
The talismanic midfield magician has taken international football in his stride, reproducing the kind of displays the hammers faithful have become accustomed to, which has led to some of Europe’s elite considering making a move for him.
The odds of Payet leaving West Ham this summer have plummeted to just 5/4, but what will hurt the most is the likelihood he’ll remain in the Premier League, with Chelsea leading the chase at 7/4.
Other Premier League contenders for his signature include Manchester United (12/1) and Arsenal (16/1), but it’s more likely Payet will make the move to mainland Europe following Euro 2016.
Mega rich PSG (9/1) could be prepared to tempt the 29 year old former Marseille player back to France, where he would be treated like royalty if he can help lead the host nation to Euro 2016 glory, the option of sunning himself in Spain with Champions League winners Real Madrid (8/1) also a distinct possibility.
Ladbrokes News’ Dave Burin said: “Payet has been the star man at Euro 2016 so far and the big boys are lining up to take him from the Hammers. Don’t be surprised to see him swap the East End for West London this summer.”
Wherever the midfield maestro calls his next home it’ll be a shame for West Ham fans, just as they move to a brand new state of the art stadium, a move designed to help the club compete with Europe’s elite, their star player is courted by those very clubs.
