Day four looks a cracker on paper with the headline act of the Cheltenham Festival, the Cheltenham Gold Cup, it’s looking like it’s going to be a great renewal, as you can see for yourself in our Cheltenham Festival 2015 Day Four preview.

4.05 – Foxhunters’ Chase – Paint The Clouds WIN 9/2

Cheltenham Festival 2015 Day Four Gold Cup Preview

JCB Triumph Hurdle

Cheltenham Festival 2015 Gold Cup at paddy powerRacing gets underway with the JCB Triumph Hurdle and this looks to have some potential big names declared.

The betting is headed by the Nicky Henderson trained Peace And Co, who has done nothing but impress this season and deserves favouritism, however does he deserve to be as short as 7/4 for the contest, in my opinion no, not with the quality of the opposition. He may well romp away with the contest but I do not feel there is any value in his price currently.

Willie Mullins’ Hargam is next in the betting and he looks a great horse for the future, the grey disposed of Starchitect at Musselburgh in February with the minimum of fuss, he has two form lines with the favourite through the aforementioned and also Karezak but on both pieces of form it looks like he will need to improve to match Peace And Co.

Peace And Co beat Karezak by 3 lengths and Starchitect by 19 lengths whereas Hargam beat Karezak by 1 ¼ lengths and Starchitect by 6 lengths, the latter of which however was done so very hard held, it is hard to say if Hargam is good enough to beat Peace And Co with both horses looking to improve again, however he does hold good each way value even at this stage.

Robert Stephens’ Beltor could be interesting after his easy victory over the Paul Nicholls’ trained All Yours last week and his form has been franked.

My each way bet though is another Mullins trained horse, this time Kalkir at 16/1, his form on paper doesn’t look anything special in comparison to the horse above him in the betting, however the way he has travelled through his races looks like he is made for better ground and given that he may get that at Cheltenham means he could be a great price.

The stable hold him in high regard and here’s hoping his run beating Petite Parisienne has set him up perfectly for this race.

Albert Bartlett Hurdle

One name that stands out on Day Four for me is Black Hercules in the Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle, another Willie Mullins horse, he looks made for this race and I’m sure it has been the target for a long time, Still at 6/1 I will be very surprised if he doesn’t go close, he looks a machine of a horse.

Cheltenham Gold Cup

The big race, the Cheltenham Gold Cup, is next up and the market is headed by Silviniaco Conti.

In my opinion Silviniaco has been the unlucky horse for the past couple of years, but his win in the King George this season was a fantastic performance and is the best form by any horse in the line-up, however there are some names that I’m very interested in.

Djakadam has been set up for this race since the end of last year, although beaten in the Hennessy even that performance oozed class as he travelled smoothly, jumped impeccably but tired which off a big weight, 1st time out was not unexpected.

He put the record straight next time out by disposing of My Murphy and Goonyella, giving over a stone to the latter, a massively impressive display, Whether this year will come too soon remains to be seen but I fully expect Djakadam to be a Cheltenham Gold Cup winner one day.

Holywell is my ante post each way bet. The horse comes to his best this time of year, loves Cheltenham and is a strong stayer, I would have preferred a bigger price even at this stage but at 10/1 I still think he is value.

Foxhunter Chase

The Foxhunter Chase looks at the mercy of Paint The Clouds, another horse with Cheltenham form, he jumps well and stays all day so I will be very very surprised if he doesn’t win this.

The day finishes with two handicaps where the line ups can still change drastically so I’d rather not give a selection, however if taking their chances, Le Mercurey (Conditionals Handicap) and Ned Buntline (Grand Annual) would be my picks.
