Next week sees Longchamp’s annual prestigious event the Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe. The race is ran at a distance of 1 ½ miles and is the richest turf race in the world. The winner of the “Arc” is expected to collect in the region of 2.8 million euros.

Dave’s Selection – Golden Horn – 1 pt each way @ 6/1 (Paddy Power – NRNB)

Favourite Treve is bidding to win the race for the third time in a row, a feat that has never been achieved before and she is justifiably an even money favourite to make history.

Cash out betting betfairTreve has won over £5.7m for her connections and is obviously the best horse Al Shaqab Racing have ever had, Treve is clearly an outstanding horse and her form in my opinion is second to none that are about currently.

Since last years’ Arc victory Treve has won all 3 of her races and despatched some highly rated and regarded horses, the likes of Flintshire, Dolniya and Candarliya have all been left trailing behind the favourite on both good and soft ground.

The English raid is headed by Epsom Derby winner Golden Horn, the 3 year old is clearly a talented horse but their had been doubts about his participation in the race due to the ground, however with dry weather forecast connections now appear to favour this race ahead of the Champions Stakes a week later.

Golden Horn’s best performance to date in my opinion came at this trip when beating Jack Hobbs in the Derby on good to firm ground, if he gets those conditions again he will prove a tough nut to crack.

New Bay is currently second favourite at 11/2 best price but he will have to go some way to challenge Treve and Golden Horn, his form is decent but connections seem to think softer ground is ideal so anything firmer than good would be an unknown, there is enough to suggest that the winner lies elsewhere.

At bigger prices, Flintshire comes here in good form but it would take a monumental effort to reverse placings with the favourite whilst Dolniya, who has beat Flintshire twice could return to form on better ground. They are available at 25/1 and 33/1 respectively.

Treve is the likely winner for me but my bet would have to be Golden Horn. He is available at 6/1 with Paddy Power (Non Runner No Bet) and I suggest taking advantage of that price whilst it’s there and backing him each way. I simply can’t see him out of the frame if he takes his chance
